Tyre Disposal

Each year Britain discards almost 50 million old tyres which all need to be reprocessed or recycled. To handle all of these tyres efficiently and responsibly the Tyre Recovery Association have created a unique industry partnership.

The Tyre Industry Federation Responsible Recycler Scheme - A uniquely successful industry initiative

Transparency, traceability and accountability are cornerstones of the TIF scheme. Responsible retailers, fleet companies and other users of tyres who use Scheme members are guaranteed that the tyres collected by members of the RRS are disposed of in an environmentally friendly and acceptable method, whether recycled or used a a fuel in cement kilns, helping them comply with their Duty of Care obligations as well as protecting the environment. As a guarantee, those who subscribe to the scheme are subject to a stringent audit process conducted regularly by independent environment audit specialists.

Today, more than 80% of collected and processed tonnages are handled by accredited members of the TIF Responsible Recycler Scheme, a significant achievement in a very short space of time. Even more impressive is thsat this UK industry iniative is the largest voluntary scheme of its kind anywhere in the world.
